How to Resize Images for Instagram (2025 Edition)
Instagram continues to favour vertical content. A recent social media guide notes that carousel posts perform best when uploaded in a 4:5 aspect ratio, with recommended dimensions of 1080×1350 px. This slight vertical format ensures your images occupy more vertical space in the feed, increasing engagement.
For stories and reels, stick to a 9:16 ratio. The optimal size is 1080×1920 px, but keep important text and elements within the center 1080×1610 px safe area. Anything outside this zone may be hidden behind UI elements like the username or caption bar.
Square posts (1:1) still work, especially for grid aesthetics, and landscape posts use a 1.91:1 ratio. Hootsuite recommends uploading images with a width of 1080 px and a height between 566 and 1350 px. If your image doesn’t meet Instagram’s supported ratios, the platform will crop it automatically.
Using ImageResizr for Instagram
ImageResizr has built‑in presets for Instagram posts, stories and reels. Simply upload your image, choose the “Instagram Post” or “TikTok / Reel” preset, and let our tool handle the resizing. If you prefer a custom size, enter the width and height manually and enable the “Maintain aspect ratio” toggle to avoid distortion.
For Pro users, our AI smart resize feature analyses your image and automatically selects the best dimensions based on your chosen platform. This saves time and ensures your content always meets Instagram’s guidelines.
